Proud of his Memphis music heritage, Makky began his career as a young teenager playing MusicFests and venues across the Mid-South and has since played countless stages throughout the nation. Makky also started a successful session singing career at age 18 as the commercial jingle voice of Memphis staples such as Channel 13-ABC News, Mid-South Fair and more and went on to be an A-list session singer on famed Music Row in Nashville singing many demos for Hall of Fame songwriters and featured on hundreds of commercial jingles including The Grand Ole Opry, Blue Diamond Almonds, Williams Sausage and more as well as numerous soundtracks. Makky literally wrote the book on session singing called “Confessions of a Session Singer” (Hal Leonard Corp.). It’s required reading and sold in various universities, Amazon and other internet outlets.
His Music Row career began in 1989 where he’s written for a host of music publishers (Willie Nelson-Hank Cochran, Acuff-Rose, Warner Bros., Talbot Music, more) and his songs have been recorded by an array of artists. As a recording artist and entertainer, Makky has been featured numerous times nationally on television, radio and recordings. Makky also wrote and recorded a duet with Grammy-winner Larry Gatlin and was featured on Gatlin’s Christmas DVD from The Ryman Auditorium. Makky has recorded albums for various labels. His 2013 album “A Little Sentimental” (Vision Records-Nashville) included vintage upscale Nashville classics. His upcoming release “The Swanky South” - co-produced with Grammy-winning guitarist Andy Reiss - reflects Makky’s distinctive soulful southern crooning and writing, his all-star players, and the smooth style that has earned him ardent fans.
"Makky’s roots are firmly implanted in the fertile soil of Memphis, Tennessee, where the Mighty Mississippi has forged a unique and powerful confluence of Blues, R'n'B, Country and Soul Music. You can hear it in his voice, and in the lush and emotionally heartfelt songs he writes. Makky is a true entertainer, a first-class vocalist, and an original interpreter of the songs of the South. It is my pleasure to work with him and to call him a friend." -Legendary Bandleader/Keyboardist Mark T. Jordan
"Mak is everything a singer and a songwriter oughta want to be! He’s got heart and he’s got soul! You should be so lucky that Makky Kaylor passes your way!" -Grammy-Winning Artist Larry Gatlin
